Our purpose
“We are a spiritual community where you can explore your purpose and place.”
Mill Woods United Church (MWUC) is a diverse community; its members hold many different approaches to faith and belief; and we value this diversity. In general, people at MWUC take the Bible seriously but not literally and care more about actions than words. We focus on community-building more than on creeds; on healing more than religious doctrine; and on enlightenment more than ancient traditions.

For many people at MWUC, faith rests more in the public production of knowledge and the scientific method than in pre-modern creeds or teachings. Also, we are a values-based community (love, truth, and beauty) more than a belief-based one.

Is An
Affirming Community of Faith
In May of 2006, the congregation of Mill Woods United Church voted in favor of becoming the second Affirming Congregation in Alberta and Northwest Conference. A service of celebration was held on November 26, 2006 and we are now recognized by Affirm United as an Affirming Congregation.

Our Affirm status means that we seek to include gay men, lesbians, bisexual, two-spirit and trans-identified persons as full participants in our church life. We believe that people of all sexual orientations and gender expressions are worthy of love and respect and are called equally to participate in the life and work of Mill Woods United Church.
Being an Affirming Community of Faith also means that we seek to practice Radical Hospitality. People are accepted here wherever they may be in their spiritual journey, regardless of race, ethnic identity, or religion. Here you will find as safe place to receive and offer acceptance, dignity and respect. All are welcome in this place.
